CHAMPION AWARD

Alberto M. Carvalho has served as Superintendent of Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) since February 2022. He leads the District’s 2022-2026 Ready for the World Strategic Plan, which includes initiatives such as STEAM Lab Makerspaces and Family Academy. Under his leadership, LAUSD has formed new education compacts, made strides in school sustainability, and improved its financial standing. Prior to LAUSD, Carvalho served as Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, where he earned national recognition, including being named National Superintendent of the Year. Carvalho holds several prestigious honors, including the “Ordem de Mérito Civil” from Portugal and the “Ohtli Award” from Mexico. He is involved in several educational and community organizations, including the Aspen Institute and the Harvard Program on Education Policy and Governance.
